Genovese Pesto is not protected by a certification, therefore it’s possible to find sauce with this name, but prepared with recipes which are very different from the traditional one or produced outside Italy. Genovese pesto is a heritage of Genova and Ligurian tradition, culture and gastronomy. Genovese Basil DOP, extra virgin olive oil, garlic, pine nuts, Parmigiano Reggiano d.o.p., Pecorino Sardo (Sardinian sheep milk cheese) and salt. These are the ingredients of the traditional recipe and from the Genovese Basil DOP on, all ingredients cost considerably more compared to lower-quality ingredients. Please be cautious about prices which are too low!
